“I loved this house! We spent countless hours sitting in front of the massive window in the living area just staring out at the view. In the morning, there were lots of colourful birds flying by and although we couldn’t see the actual sun setting directly into the sea, you could still enjoy the vibrantly coloured afterglow projected across the sky. The palapa look-out on the roof had a hammock and was also a nice place to lie and read. Also appreciated was the refreshing plunge pool. After walking up hill from the beach, it was always the first stop before climbing the stairway to the house. Although there is a small casita on the property which is rented out, it’s close proximity to the main house does not infringe on privacy in any way. This home was the perfect sanctuary to escape to from the ice and snow. The design elements, tile work and colour palettes were very pleasing. The house has an eclectic feel, mixing rustic wood and wrought iron with, bright, vivid colours. Communicating with the property manager Jaunee and her team was easy and efficient for check in, and check out. She is warm, friendly and helpful and I would re-book again in a heartbeat if I was heading back this way.” Jan 2019, Michele

The walk to and from Casa Piedra Del Mar is a grounding part of being here. The handmade tile stairwells lead to the many levels of carefully chosen artisan and local touches that add a true Mexican feel to every space. Most often, if we are hot or just tired from long walks on the beach, a stop and plunge in the cool infinity pool is almost better than our nightly margarita!

You can feel the thoughtfulness of John and Gus. This is their home, it feels like they really love being here, but also to share it with others(like me!).

The kitchen is well equipped for a little cooking, though the restaurants in town are wonderful and diverse. Bedding invites restful nights. There is a genuine feel of respect for community and love of Mexican artists everywhere you look. I barely want to leave and find the peace I long for right here.

Everyone who visits spends hours in front of the gorgeous giant window where wild parrots and birds greet the day. The twinkle of lights and the best seats for the expansive sunset are right here and yours in this beautiful casita.

I love La Manzanilla and have stayed in numerous places. For me, Nothing compares to Casa Piedra del Mar. I’m already checking open dates/flights so I can return to this very beautiful place.

Gracias❤️ Jan 2019, Jesse

“Those pictures of a now far away luxurious paradise make such a contrast with the snow landscape around me…Thanks to YOU, you were a perfect host, so dedicated and sensitive, we loved your place” – Dec 22, 2014. Monique Proulx, Author, Montreal Canada- Casita Driftwood

“From the time we arrived to the time we left we had a great experience staying at this truly AMAZING home… The views of the ocean, sunset, moon, and surrounding hills from almost every room in the house were unforgettable. We took advantage of the fully equipped kitchen and had many meals on the outdoor terrace. This home is a real GEM!! The master bedroom ceiling was one of my favorite architectural details. A big thank you to John for his warm hospitality… we hope to go back soon!!”- Alina Villa -Nov 2011, Vancouver B.C.

I value privacy as a luxury, and Casa Piedra is luxurious in that regard. It’s architecturally stunning, the beds are comfortable and the view is fantastic through the huge front window that affords a vista of the town and bay below. One never tires of watching those indigo-coloured bluebirds (of happiness) flitting in the treetops. And the house is sufficiently removed from barking dogs, roosters and car noises for restful sleeps, yet you can still hear the murmour of the surf in the distance. There’s a safe place to park a car, a few adjoining villas on the hillside so one isn’t completely isolated, but you walk into town in ten minutes. The place is modern, with plenty of electrical outlets, an efficient internet connection, and two bathrooms, but it’s also unpretentious, comfortable and artsy. With an address like 8 Frida Kahlo Street, it’s perfect for even just a one-week getaway of sunset watching from the rooftop.”– a Canadian author, Summer 2009

“We just wanted to share how much we are enjoying your home in LM, It is so well designed and executed that we are continually amazed. Would love to hear about your process of designing and building if you ever have time. We like the new things you have done to the house. Thanks for getting the chairs for downstairs and the table which is currently in the palapa serving its function well.” -Dorinda Ennis- Virginia Beach VA- Feb 2011

“I stayed at Casa Piedra del Mar in April ’11. It was very nice and views were breathtaking. Drove daily to playa Marimar which is in Mazanillo Colima, it’s only about 1.5 hours away. Totally recommend this home away from home to anyone.”- Jaime Topete-San Jose, CA

“We are really enjoying our home here. Gracias John . It is always the perfect place to hang out with awesome ocean views and a short stroll when one wants to swim or shop. It is always full of fresh air. We have loved the Sunsets as well as watching the moon as well. From the living room window, Veda and Kathleen saw Whales spouting off the other day while I was busy luxuriously enjoying the bath while still having a great view of the bay.” Al Reford-Victoria, BC-Jan 2012
